Another great show guys. Thanks for the nod to my supreme Star Trek geekery! Ha! Does a comprehensive DVD collection including most of the TV series, all of the movies and a 500 + book collection gain me entrance into the hall of Trek fan fame? I have never actually attended a Star Trek convention but I could probably teach a course in Federation history! My Star Trek gaming even stretches back to the mid-seventies where I ruled on a time-share computer linked up to Dartmouth college. The game consisted of flying around on a grid via numbered coordinates and firing phasers and torpedoes at pesky Klingons and Romulans. At the time, my mother worked at a private school in Putney Vermont and I learned BASIC at the terminal with the help of students and a guy that I later learned was the co-developer of BASIC, Thomas Kurtz. I used to “sneak” into the computer room, play the Star Trek game, print dot matrix pictures and create simple BASIC programs that imitated Hal in the 2001 Space Odyssey movie! Good times! It was really my early love of Star Trek, electronics and gaming that led me to my current career as a Systems Analyst\Knowledge Specialist. At work I solve real world problems with technology and I find that my MMO experiences actually help me to piece together puzzles on the job. Fortunately for me, I attended public school at a time where map reading was a large part of the curriculum. In addition to my aforementioned geekery, I have also had a life-long love of history, literature and archaeologically. Of course, science fiction goes without saying. I even seriously considered a career in Egyptology, another passion of mine. So, you can imagine that I was pretty excited when Stargate hit the scene, even more so when SG1 came to be. I mean, what could be better than Science Fiction and Egyptian history? Hello! I think you may have missed the point when you got stuck on the whole nuke plot device in the original movie. The movie was really more of a character driven story where O’Neil came to realize that preserving life was always better than destroying it. I should note here that I also served my time in the Army as a nuclear missile technician so I know a couple of things about nukes. That’s the other part of Stargate, SG1 especially, that I like; the realistic portrayal of military procedure and chain of command. I would be willing to loan you my set of the first season of SG1 to give you all a chance to reevaluate the series. I’ll trust you guys to send me back the set in good condition or I may be forced to contact my alien friends to seek retribution. As to Burnout Paradise, I totally agree that the lack of the crash mode is a disappointment with the show time mode being only a lukewarm substitute. The cool thing about the game, in addition to it’s graphical beauty, (I’m not a graphics whore, but damn! The game looks good!) is the fun playing online with 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 players. It’s a blast to complete all of the events (50 in each group) and you get some really cool cars as a result. Racing and car games are not even a favorite genre of mine, but I love the game anyway. Feel free to hit me up on Xbox live at my gamertag “Sanclus” if you want give it a run. My latest 360 indulgences include Burnout Paradise, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect and Poker Smash! On the MMO side, I have pretty much been sticking with EQ2 although I have along way to go with my various tunes. The newest expansion is great and a good deal for fist time players as they can purchase it with the original game, previous expansions and adventure packs for 39 bucks! As a possible show idea, I would love to hear a discussion of how you justify your love of games and MMOs to the significant others in your lives. I routinely field questions from my game-hating wife such as “What’s this SOE crap on your bank account!” Have any of you guys ever converted a former “game-hater” into a “gamer.” My lovely wife is a lost cause, but I would love to hear your stories. Have a great week and congrats on your upcoming 30th episode!

    Daniel (Sanctus)

PS Ha! I loved the part where you made fun of my Sanctus nick name! It’s actually nothing more than part of my name translated into Latin. My Sanclus XBL name was a mistake when I set up my original Xbox live account several years back. On my old SDTV, the l looked like a T! Doh!

    Duh! Two typos above:

archaeologically should have read archeology and tunes should have read toons!
