Why oh why do you guys keep saying “Leech King”. It’s LICH King. Lich sounds like Bitch, not leech.

    and Warhammer rocks.

I love the look on Mark and Noah’s faces every time I say it. They turn bright red and veins start popping out of their foreheads.

I don’t say either “lich” or “leech”, because I simply don’t care to talk about it.

Next time Mark, try to be a bit more fair in regards to Multiverse.
MV was created to help Indie developers who dont have the blizzard or Mythic budgets.

Multiverse supplies the engine, and takes care of the billing. The developer only then has to worry about code and textures.

I think wardog studios only has team of some 10 or so people, so… you are going to expect them to write their own engine?

Also, i dont think MV has taken any real money in yet so yes, their engine is going to be lacking. Maybe in 5 years, if their engine still looks lost in the early 2000s. then ill come back here and agree.

Five years?! That would mean we’re still alive and kicking in 2013.

Haven’t you read the Mayan calendar? We’ll be dead before then.

Anyone who thinks a Harry Potter MMO is a good idea needs to be killed. I dont care how, but they need to die and quickly before it spreads.

The books were great. I loved the books, however Ms. Rowling has George Lucas syndrome. Suing someone over an encyclopedia? Over a matter of six thousand dollars! She has more money than god and she is worried that 6 fucking thousand dollars will bankrupt her!? Yes, i understand that the book could have gone on to be successful and made the writer several hundred thousand dollars, but WTF! she could have settled for a royalties deal, nope.

Harry potter belongs as a book. Movies? whatever, they suck anyway. We already have one plague and that is the Star wars/Star Trek fattys that run around speaking in Klingon and demanding that jedi be a recognized religion.

Without researching the issue, I think the problem Ms. Rowling had was from a copywrite standpoint? Don’t you have to send C/D letters/sue someone or you lose the rights to your copywrite IP? I’m just guessing it was more about that than any potential “lost revenue”.

    @Nameless One
Seeing as the Harry Potter series has sold over 400 million copies in 67 languages and set records as some of the fastest selling books in history; and let alone that the film franchise has released 5 of the top 20 grossing films of all time, you would have to kill a fuck-ton of people if everyone who would probably play a Harry Potter MMO were to die (including our beloved host, Noah).

As far as the lawsuit, it wasn’t about the $6K statutory damages at all. It was about protecting her intellectual property, and as the judge ruled, Steven Vander Ark’s “Lexicon” was comprised of far too much verbatim copying and competed with Rowling’s own planned encyclopedia. The big verdict came in the form of the injunction Rowling was granted that will prevent the lexicon from ever seeing the light of day. I’m sure she didn’t give a rat’s ass about the six grand, which maybe paid for a day of her legal fees. Whether she’s rich now or not, she has a right as an artist to protect the intellectual property that she’s created.

I do agree that the Potter series is best served as a book. The movies kind of suck, and I’m not too optimistic about the MMO; but hey, welcome to a capitalistic world. If there’s a buck to be made on a multimillion dollar IP, you can bet your ass they’re going to milk it for every penny the public will surrender and whether it sucks or not, fans will come in droves to play this MMO. The great thing is: you don’t have to.

There’s a guy in my gaming guild who once sketched out how a Harry Potter MMO could be done, and his concept was brilliant. Absolutely challenging, yet fun to play.

What a bizarre concept, Nameless One, to not want a Harry Potter MMO because you have distaste for some of the stuff JK Rowling’s legal people have done in the past.

She’s also done a truckload for charity in various ways, including writing highly limited edition stories to be auctioned for those charities. But, hey, let’s not let the GOOD stuff she’s done get in the way of a rant, huh? :P
