I have some great suggestions for episode 100! JIM, a non-drunk Jason,…oh hell : /
Muhahahahah! Too late!
Hmmm, it think it’s a revelation about the stagnant MMO genre taht you’re still wishing for the same things now as you were in your early roundtable discussions.
On the concept of players on a server working towards a goal and actually having an impact, I actually don’t think the tech is there yet, but MMOs are slowly getting there.
Public Quests in WAR are an example of this, and in LOTRO to unlock the Lothlorien Battle Instance for a week or so, all the players from the server complete quests which add to a total “completion meter”. Once the meter is full, the instance is unlocked.
We’re still in the basic stages, but as MMOs and the tech involved grow, then i think we will start seeing more advanced forms of this… hopefully.
As for dungeons which are randomly generated to give different player experience… lemme think of the last MMO to try that. Oh yeah, Hellgate: London.
Instead of being randomized, maybe have a random cycle? Because if they truly are randomized then the final boss could be anywhere in the instance/dungeon… at the beginning, at the end, or anywhere in between.
Wow, you guys gave me a lot to talk about, but I think I’ll save the rest for an email.
Happy 100! Always fun to hit a podcast and find multiple shows to listen to. Save me a seat KOTOR. I’ve never been a Star Wars gamer. I’ve played the console games with my son but that was about spending time with him, not because I was a fan. But I do want to see how/if they’re successful at putting story back into MMOs.
