Would Noah share with us the hardware he decided on for his new PC system (processor, motherboard, video card, ram)? I’m also considering an upgrade, but I am picky about what I have “under the hood”. Noah seems to be someone who does somewhat extensive research on a subject, like I do, and I’d be interested to know what hardware he thought best for his gaming needs.
    Thanks for your help.
Also, I really enjoy the podcasts, guys. It’s my favorite, & the one I look forward to most. I appreciate the effort you guys put into it.

Also too passive a podcast listener to send Skype messages but I REALLY enjoy the podcast even though I’m barely playing anything. It’s fun to hear what others are playing. Screw people who think you jump from game to game. There are hundreds, if not thousands of single game dedicated podcasts. When I playing something in particular I listen to those too but when I’m not, I continue to enjoy listening to podcasts about gaming in general. Keep the shows coming.

Hey, Leprechaun. We explain this a bit further in Episode 105 (recorded last night) but I actually was the one who specified the system that Noah built. I built one two, just about a month ago. We have the same system except that I’m still, stubbornly, using my Nvidia 8800GT card until the next generation comes out and forces my hand.

    Here are the specs:

Sorry the spreadsheet didn’t come out so great but email me at mark@channelmassive.com, if interested, and I’ll sent it to you in a better format.

The rationale for choosing Intel of AMD for this one was the incredible firepower of the Intel Core i7. If you look at performance graphs on http://www.tomshardware.com you can see it pretty much holding its own. I was pleased to pull up Task Manager in Vista and see 8 CPU cores, all humming along.

I chose the motherboard because several gaming system makers like Dog House systems, for instance, had standardized it. I figure they have a vested interest in avoiding RMAs and should know a winning mobo when they see one. It also has a ton of features and compatibility options and is an ASUS. The thing can handle either 3xSLI or CrossFire for either Nvidia or ATI cards.

I went with the two hard drives in a RAID0 configuration because of the speed. It’s not up there with solid state or dual 15,000 RPM drives but at the price point, it’s pretty decent. The Matrix controller on the mobo handles this easily.
