In anticipation of the release of Star Trek Online, I feel like reflecting on some of my favorite moments in Star Trek.
First off, the great Wizard of Ozish, ‘man behind the curtain’ story that featured one of the ugliest mugs ever to grace television –
The beginning of the episode starts with the U.S.S. Enterprise encountering a giant piece of a Rubik’s Cube. As this cube starts chasing the ship all over the place it unleashes deadly levels of radiation. Before it nearly kills the crew, Kirk decides that the best course of action is to blast the probe to hell and ask questions later.
Shortly after, a much larger Christmas Ornament of Death (TM) shows up and renders the Enterprise helpless with a powerful tractor beam. It turns out that the radioactive Rubik’s Cube piece was a warning buoy deployed by the First Federation and they’re pissed. Whoops!
What happens next? Well, I’m not one to spoil it for you. You can watch the full episode here.
For fun, I’d like to start a daily discussion group about each episode I mention. If you have a particular episode that you would like featured for next time, feel free to send it to mail-at-channelmassive.com.
I just love that it was Ron Howard’s younger brother, whatever his name is, that played that ugly little alien.
My favorite Star Trek is the OST episode with the big green alien monster on the desolate planet that looks just like California’s desert. Captain Kirk gets chased around forever before he finally builds a giant canon-gun, which he uses to blast the alien to death.
