Epic “WoW Tourist” Post by Syncaine
Eddie…you done messed up. BIG TIME!
Thank you for spreading the word about Syncaine’s WoW tourist blog. Loved it and had to leave a comment of my appreciation to him. Hopefully he won’t be creeped out, but, hey, Mark already crossed that bridge with Michael Zenke, so what do I have to lose? Plus, unlike Mark, my affections are always fleeting.
Why are we complaining about WoW tourists and telling them to stay home? Some companies call them “early adopters” and count on them to make box sale targets.
If they don’t stick around, it may even mean that the game design is somehow broken. Yes, it often means that players “just wanna go home”, but dismissing the concerns of mere “tourists” is ignoring the very real fact that some of those tourists may well have moved in, but didn’t for some reason. (And if those reasons aren’t “it’s not WoW”, they should be paid attention to.)
“And if those reasons aren’t “it’s not WoW”, they should be paid attention to.”
Most of the time it’s not even because the game isn’t fun. But the the crux syncaines arguement is that to a ‘tourist’ it’s NOT WoW. A majority of the “WoW Tourists” know nothing else. They go into these no MMO’s expecting everything to be just like WoW and if they aren’t they bail in droves.
Maybe that’s why LoTRO is so successful. It’s practically WoW with Middle Earth wrapping paper on it.

No, not really. But I know you hate it so whatever. The UI is similar and all quests in all MMOs are similar, but you never even got to the endgame of LOTRO so how can you make that judgment? LOTRO is successful because it takes the best of what WoW and other MMOs have and adds polish and a steady flow of content to it. But, man by saying that I may start an argument of epic proportions…
I’m done here for the day, reply in whatever way suits your mood
*logs off and runs*
Good mini-cast though.
Ooooh! You done it now Julien!
I don’t HATE LoTRO. It just doesn’t do anything for me.
